3rd October: Special Screening of 'The Sweeney' For Charity (June 14, 2010)
'The Sweeney': the life and work of Jim Sweeney
Sunday 3rd October, 12pm, Broadway Cinema
Another
big date for your comedy diaries: Sunday 3rd October will be one to
remember as we host a special screening of ‘The Sweeney’ - a
documentary of the life and work of the ‘Godfather of Impro Comedy’,
Jim Sweeney.
A veteran of the Comedy Store Players and regular on Channel 4’s
‘Whose Line Is It Anyway...?’, Jim is a legend of British comedy. As
well as being a quick-witted improviser and performer, Jim proved his
mettle as a talented writer. From sitcoms to sketches to one-man shows,
for both radio and television, he’s delighted countless audiences over
the years, winning The Granada Media Comedy Writing Award and the
prestigious Scotsman Fringe First for his play, ‘Danny’s Wake’.
'The Sweeney' traces the life and laughs of this titan, and how he
turned Multiple Sclerosis into a positive force in his journey - with
special appearances by Stephen Frost, Barbara Herbin, Eddie Izzard,
Josie Lawrence, Paul Merton, Mike McShane, Julian Moses, Neil
Mullarkey, Greg Proops, Lee Simpson, Mark Skeete, Andy Smart, Steve
Steen, Richard Vranch, Don Ward, Peter Wear, Suki Webster.
This documentary will be screened at a few selected venues around
the country, and you can come to see it as part of the Nottingham
Comedy Festival in October. Thanks to the lovely people at the Broadway
Cinema, all of the proceeds will go to the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre. It’s a fantastic cause, a great chance to find out more about Jim from those who know him best, so don't miss out!
The event also includes a short film written by Jim, plus a
selection of shorts from the Claire Valley Film Festival, which Jim
judged.
Tickets £4 - available here. (Remember - all proceeds go to the MSRC!)

A huge thank you to Jim, MashMosh Productions and the Broadway for making this event possible.
